i wast fully impressed when i first saw ‘mouse’ at my local skateshop.
thats it. nothing more nothing less. it was just too technical for me, seeing that i was very influence by toy machines ‘welcome to hell’, there wasnt much excitement. it just seemed like the same trick over and over again. there wasnt a feeling of energy being pushed onto the viewer because, if you dont see people hucking themselves down 15 stairs, there wasnt any sort of danger involved with the tech tricks. i mean who really gets hurt on a fiberglass bench?? seeing where skating has gone in the past 13+ years, i can say that i was very wrong about this whole video…pretty much since day 1. technical skating has gone beyond what was conceived in ‘mouse’ and then some. there was a progression that makes technical skating, to me, much more enjoyable to watch nowadays because of it. the more comfortable the skater is nowadays on their boards just makes parts much more interesting, more creative. the girl/chocolate family are the ones that slowly built on these principles and just kept pushing movies to be more well versed to everyone and not just a certain crowd. all of these guys are throwing crazy tricks down the same exact spots that were only though of as ollie/kickflip type places.
heres the intro to mouse. one of the few parts i did enjoy when i first saw it, and its still fun today. more to come…
